* File .jar: The .jar files are the executable file that you need to install into your device. You have to check if it is compatible with the JAVA version MIDP1 or MIDP2, and if memory size is correct. (Previous Java Phones allows only 32ko or 64ko). New devices are MIDP2 and have enough memory for .jar (500Ko).

* File .jad: The .jad files are the header of informations for each .jar file. It allows to get informations without downloading the .jar file and choose if you want to install or not the soft.

* JAVA VM phone: Most of Java phones are delivered with one JAVA VM enclosed.

INFORMATIONS PalmOS

* JAVA VM PalmOS: Most of PalmOS are delivered without any JAVA VM. So, if you want to use one java application under your PalmOS you need to install first the compatible Java VM. The VM is something like MIDP.prc file.

Two examples are listed below:

PalmOS 3.5+ MIDP 1 VM : SUN provides an MIDP VM for old PalmOS devices, and a .jar to .prc Convertor. You can find all files and informations here SUNMIDP4Palm

PalmOS 5.4+ MIDP 2 VM : IBM provides a more recent MIDP VM which is only compatible within PalmOS V 5.4 or higher devices, moreover a .jar to .prc Convertor (JarToPrc). You can find all files and informations here JAVA VM IBM WEME
